Commissioned to design the gift / retail store for the Mel Brooks’ Musical, Young Frankenstein, our objectives were to transform the small space into an extension of Dr. Frankenstein’s laboratory. ‘Frankensteins’ Creations’ would situate the array of products to be sold following each performance.
We designed a wide array of surface treatments, ultimately cladding the entire space with faux stone work, sheet steel and wood beams, re-imagining the space as a new world. On entering the triangular alcove from the vast marble lobby, guests see glistening stonework, and old wood beams that support grated metal barred window in the ceiling. Faux painted storms and lightning flash overhead, as audience browses through the products on display, set within faux-rusty metal shelves, and hung on stone walls.
