Venue: Pier 40. West Street. New York.

For the Spring / Summer 2007 collection of Y-3, our client selected Pier 40 on the Hudson River in New York for the venue. Pre-determining that the guests would be seated alongside the path of the models, we were presented with a great opportunity to re-think the visual dynamics of the space.
In the manner of standing on a subway platform seeing trains and riders pass in layered planes of space before one’s eyes, we designed a runway with 2 paths of moving sidewalk conveyor belts - whereby models would move faster, slower, or simply be carried along, in 2 planes of space. Along the river simultaneously, we designed graphic towers of fluorescent lights, mounted to barges that imperceptibly floated closer and farther from the pier’s edge. The combined effect created a vast panorama of the New Jersey skyline, articulated with a vibrant and dynamic play of scales.
